SCARY STORIES OF HORROR

3 December 2021

If you want to read Triple Six: Mark of The Beast as I write the story, then you'll have to subscribe to my newsletter at Fiction for the Soul: Book Corner.

There will be no free chapters at the moment because this story is still unpublished - hence, the read as I write.

If you would rather wait for the book to be published, I will be posting pre-order links soon.

Stephen Simpson writes scary stories with gasp endings. He is the author of horror fiction for teens & young adults. He has always had a vivid imagination, and now uses this to inspire the stories he tells. A full-time author, Stephen lives in Northern Ireland with his family.

Introducing Triple Six: Mark of the Beast.

So, this book was supposed to have been published already but... the list of excuses is super long and I don't want to bore you with the details.

If you've missed it, I've recently started a blog where I post 10 minute daily 'episodes' of books I have already written.

Last night, I had an idea!

When the current story (The Invisible Girl in Room Thirteen) has been posted up to the ending, I am going to start posting daily episodes of 1,000 words each of Triple Six: Mark of the Beast as I write them.

Hope to see you there!

The Invisible Girl in Room Thirteen is now available in multiple formats

The Invisible Girl in Room Thirteen is a scary ghost story with a twist for teenagers and young adults. The story was first published in eBook on the 1st of December 2016.

I wrote a fanfiction called New Dawn, but decided to rewrite it as The Shape of My Soul about a girl who could shape shift. The room number thirteen and Lily, the girl who killed herself in that room, kept creeping in and messing with my story, which led me to take all those parts and write a story about Lily, the ghost girl with very evil intentions.

The Invisible Girl in Room Thirteen is one of those stories where you have to read between the lines, and I have left lots of breadcrumbs along the way toward the gasp! and twisty ending.

The first edition was published as The Girl in Room Thirteen, and as with all my questionable decisions to date, was later re-published as The Invisible Girl in Room Thirteen. Which, truth be told, is a more fitting title.

What My Soul Does When I Am Asleep is almost available in multiple formats

What My Soul Does When I Am Asleep is a scary story for teenagers and young adults. The story was first published in eBook on the 9th of May 2015.

This story is based on true events.

It's no secret that I am afraid of the dark and it's not because horrible things happened to me while I was in the dark. It is because I can feel there is something there that I cannot see.

I was born with a caul or cowl. Depending where you live, a caul or cowl is also called a veil. It is a piece of membrane that covered my newborn head and face. It is quiet rare for this to happen and fewer than 1 in 80,000 babies are born with a caul and it is harmless.

However...

As the word veil implies, it means (according to old wives) that I have the ability to see beyond this dimension that we live in. So, could that mean that I can intuit that there is indeed 'things' within the darkness?

Many laugh at old wives' tales, but it begs to be considered where did these old wive's tales begin. Was it old wives sitting around a fire in their medieval huts making up stories of superstition. I think not. These tales must have had a root and a reason.

According to old wives' tales, children born with this caul have the ability to see behind the veil of life and death and that they can communicate with the dead and intuitively know things. They know something is going to happen, hear voices, or see entities. They often experience coincidental déjà vu.

This means mostly that I am afraid of the dark, not just night time dark, but dark within a forest too. I know who is phoning before I look at Caller ID. I know someone I am close to is going to die because I start crying for absolutely no reason about a week before. I don't know who, but I know there'll be a death in my circle.

I have very, very real dreams. Sometimes when I wake, I don't know where I am. As if this is the dream.

I believe I have a soul, and can dream walk with ease.

Whilst writing What My Soul Does When I Am Asleep I have taken some of my most weirdest dreams and turned them into a story.

Murder Gone Viral is now available in multiple formats

Murder Gone Viral is a scary horror story for teenagers and young adults. The story was first published in eBook on the 8th of December 2012.

To be honest, I do not remember what inspired me to write this story. I think there was this sudden upsurge on the internet of people wanting to be seen, no matter what, and it got me thinking what would someone who was really desperate for attention do. Also, every second show on the TV back then was for one or other make my dreams come true reality competition, and I tried to marry the two phenomenons.

This book is the only story I have ever written where there are some very foul language, but it fits the story (in my humble opinion).

The first edition of Murder Gone Viral was published as Viral, which resulted in people thinking it was a book about How To Go Viral...

ps. the right book titles are super, super important. Something I am yet to master.

Chain Letter is now available in multiple formats

Chain Letter is a scary horror story for teenagers and young adults. The story was first published in eBook on the 30th of August 2010.

I cannot believe it's been 11 years!

Back in 2010 the internet was still very 'young', and very, very different from how it is today. People were mainly using the internet for banking, MySpace and emails. This meant that there were a LOT of spam emails doing the rounds.

I kept getting these emails (also in those days, you couldn't mark an email as spam as you can these days. Whatever landed in your inbox, you opened) and then suddenly the idea formed and I started to write Chain Letter. I wrote the entire story in a weekend. Like I said, there was no internet distractions :o)

The first edition was published as Subject: FWD (lol can you imagine). It was later re-published as SPAM (this resulted in people either thinking it was about the American processed meat with a similar name, or like actual spam email). Thus, late 2019, it was, again, re-published and now has the title of Chain Letter.

Introducing Stephen Simpson

Stephen Simpson is a pen name of Lynette Ferreira.

Late 2019, I decided to separate my teen and young adult horror books from my sweet romance stories because I thought readers who like reading about falling in love, surely would not be interested in reading my horror with gasp! ending books.

The name Stephen Simpson is a part of me, my DNA, and not a random name I pulled from the sky.

Sometimes, my mind goes to weird and creepy places :o) and then I have to write those stories. My horror stories creates an eerie and frightening atmosphere, and are often supernatural in nature, though they can be gory and slasher horror too.
